Places to visit within easy driving distance of Altea

The Costa Blanca offers a wide range of cultural, historical, artistic and commercial locations of great attraction to holiday visitors. There are castles and fortresses; museums and art galleries; theatres and cinemas; plus water and theme parks. There are also all types of shopping experiences on offer, from local stores to hypermarkets; designer clothes shops to fleamarkets; craft stalls to trendy boutiques; and weekly fruit and vegetable markets which are held in many of the towns and villages, including Altea .

Guadalest

A short journey inland from Altea takes you to places such as Guadalest, a sixteenth-century Moorish castle town built into the surrounding rock ; the Algar Fountain with its ice-cold waterfall; the Canalobre caves with their fascinating history; and Jijona, where you can visit the factories where they make the nougat which is exported in large quantities around the world.

Coastal attractions include the Ifach Rock at Calpe; the salt flats and flamingos at Santa Pola; the Granadella bay at Javea; and the glorious sandy beaches at Benidorm, which is also home to the Terra Mítica theme park and Aqualandia, a fun water park suitable for all ages.
The city of Alicante offers wide esplanades, splendid beaches, good shopping facilities as well as the Santa Bárbara castle, an imposing fortress with spectacular views over the bay, and the 20th century art museum.

A visit to Valencia will be rewarded by seeing the stunning collection of tiles and plates at the National Ceramic museum; the baroque extravagance of the Palacio del Marqués de Dos Aguas; the beautiful city cathedral with its 14th century tower; and the rapidly expanding City of Arts and Sciences, with its futuristic architecture and its Oceanographic Park housing the largest aquarium in Europe.

In March, around the saint’s day of San José, Valencia celebrates the Fiesta de las Fallas,with a riot of colour, noise, bonfire and fireworks. In addition there are Moors and Christians fiestas to be enjoyed in many parts of the Costa Blanca at different times of the year, with perhaps the most famous at the inland industrial town of Alcoy, 60 kilometres from Alicante.
